Primary vs Secondary Infertility

Infertility is a condition where you can’t get pregnant after one year of trying to conceive. Causes of infertility can include ovulatory disorders, endometriosis, low sperm count or low testosterone.

Primary infertility

Refers to individuals or couples who have never achieved a clinical pregnancy.

Secondary infertility

Secondary Infertility: Refers to difficulty conceiving after having previously achieved one or more pregnancies.

When to Consult a Specialist

Some causes of infertility affect just one partner, while others affect both partners. Risk factors for infertility include:

For Women Under 35 - If pregnancy is not achieved after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse.
For Women Aged 35 and Over - 35 to 39 Years: If pregnancy is not achieved after 6 months of regular intercourse.
For Women Aged Over 40 - 40 Years and Above: Early evaluation and consultation with a reproductive specialist are recommended prior to or upon actively trying to conceive.
